“He smiled understandingly - much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced - or seemed to face - the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.”
- The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald
Very excited to finally see this movie!
“You get a strange feeling when you’re about to leave a place, like you’ll not only miss the people you love but you’ll miss the person you are now at this time and place because you’ll never be this way ever again.”
Reading Lolita in Tehran, Azar Nafisi
BUT, I am more than ready for what’s to come!
That is our generation’s task – to make these words, these rights, these values – of Life, and Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness – real for every American.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Today, on MLK Day and the 57th Presidential Inauguration, I am more proud than ever to be an American. I am lucky and thankful to have the privileges that I do. I aspire to never miss an opportunity to help, inspire, or reach out to individuals on the pursuit of happiness (whatever their definition may be), because we really are in this together.
